TWIST YOUR TEE TIPS
Our Tee with a Twist concept, is all about harnessing the community’s youth to use their creativity and imagination to repurpose clothing within their own wardrobes (or their parents or grandparents, with permission of course!). Take a simple tee, shirt or jacket and twist it into something totally different.
Cut it, paint it, merge it and lets see what you create. A few examples of how you can repurpose your tee are detailed in our Twist Your Tee Tips below.
HOME MADE DYES
One of the simplest things you can do is dye something a new colour. You wouldn't believe how much change this can make, and will have you wearing it again all the time.
However, there is just one problem with this. Most textile dyes that you buy in a shop are filled with a LOT of nasty chemicals, which after the dyeing process are most likely going to end up down your drain and washed into our waterways. This defeats the purpose of upcycling clothes to stop them from going to waste, if you will be polluting in the process.
TSHIRT CUTTING
One of the most important things to remember when cutting up T-shirts is to constantly try them on while cutting. You may think something is too short or wide on a table but once you put it on your body things change. Use you body to help mark how low you should cut the neckline and mark it with colored chalk. White tees are not the only tees that deserve this treatment. Scour your closet for old concert t-shirts that you never wear and give them a new look.
FABRIC PENS
Decorate your tee with fabric paint or fabric pens. Did you know you can use a sharpie to create a watercolour effect on your tee.
